Teachers used to ask about their students, “How smart are they?” Now they ask “What are they smart in.” This change has developed as a result of a book published in 1983 by Howard Gardner titled “The Theory of Multiple Intelligences”.
Gardner’s research suggests there are 8, and he later expanded to include 9, personalities found within the human race. The goal of a good teacher then is to find out what a student is “smart” in, and not how smart are they.
In Flying Stars Feng Shui we say the same thing. We say there are 9 different energies. Each has its own personality, strength and weakness. Within any space there is a possibility of any combination of the 9 energies just like in a classroom. The trick for both practitioner and teacher is to find and develop the right energy.
Flying Stars practitioners use a tool called the Luo Shu. It depicts 9 squares each labeled with a number.
The number relates to a certain personality. What is of special interest here is that the 9 personality types determined in the Multiple Intelligence Theory are extremely similar to the 9 personality types described in the Luo Shu.
Feng Shui is all about finding and using the right personality in the right way. People are forms of energy and easily pick up on influences. When we spend a lot of time in a space with a certain personality we pick up that personality as our own. This is why it is important to sleep and work in places that promote your goals.
